Here is a picture of a few of our St. Vincent de Paul members dropping off our homeless donations from last month's collection, at Family Services.
For our second straight year, St Rose of Lima parishioners joined the members of the Hollidaysburg Knights of Columbus in their Lenten 40 Cans for 40 Days food drive. Together we were able to collect and donate 2,048 lbs. of food and $1,000 in cash to our area food banks. Your St Rose St Vincent de Paul Conference would like to thank all those who contributed to this endeavor. It was a huge success!
God Bless You All! God Bless all those who took the time out of their busy Christmas schedules to fill a box for our Care Packages. By the day after Christmas the St. Vincent de Paul donation area was filled to the brim with 12 Care Packages all filled and ready for delivery. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
The St. Rose of Lima Conference collected hooded sweatshirts for use by Family Services in their homeless/needy programs. Through the month of November, parishioners from both St. Rose and St. Patrick donated slightly worn and new hooded sweatshirts towards this worthy cause. A total of 80 sweatshirts, along with 7 coats and some beanies, socks and gloves were delivered to Family Services by the Conference.
Dan Weaver, St. Rose Conference president, said, “The members of the St. Rose of Lima SVDP Conference would like say thank you to all the parish members who donated to this noble cause. When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts, into our lives and into the hearts of those who are poor. God Bless You All!” The St. Rose of Lima Conference continued with its Homeless Support Program with a collection of Care Package items for use by Family Services in their homeless/needy programs. Through the month of August Parish members donated needed items, such as toilet paper, tissues, hand soap, soap or shower gel, laundry detergent, deodorant, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste. An overwhelming amount was donated and delivered to Family Services by the Conference. We would like say thank you to all the parishioners who donated to this noble cause. When we give to the poor, God indeed pours his love, peace and joy into our hearts, into our lives and into the hearts of those who are poor. God Bless You All!
Your donations are the lifeblood of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. Our Thrift Store in Altoona normally accepts clothing, furniture, household items etc. Unfortunately, with our Thrift Store being closed due to COVID-19, we are unable to bring in the much-needed donations for the store.
With the “Stay in Place” order in effect, many of us are doing our spring housekeeping early. Therefore, we would ask that you please keep us in mind and hold what you can for donation to the store once they reopen for business. We will let you know when they reopen and you can then simply drop off your items at the store, located at 1215 7th Avenue, Altoona. Thank you and God Bless! Your St Rose of Lima St Vincent De Paul Conference members would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parishioners who contributed to our 40 Cans for 40 Days food drive. We know that our food drive was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however you should be pleased to know that with your help the Knights of Columbus was able to donate 1,501 lb of food and $1,000 to the local food banks.
Your kindness gives hope to many individuals and families served through the St Rose Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. We deeply appreciate your caring commitment to helping those who need it most. Please feel welcome to contact us if we can assist you in any way. Again, thank you for your kindness and generosity. God Bless You All!! For many families in our community, ongoing economic hardships have resulted in daily struggles to put food on their tables. Some people simply don’t have enough food to eat and go to bed hungry.
This year the St. Rose of Lima St. Vincent de Paul Conference will be joining our Parish’s Knights of Columbus members in their “40 Cans for the 40 Days of Lent” program. We aspire to have each parishioner at St Rose of Lima contribute one can of food per day throughout the 40 days of Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 26th and concluding on Holy Thursday, April 9th. Donations of canned food or dry goods can be placed in the donation box located in the vestibule of the Church. All donations will be delivered to local food banks on April 9th. Each day of Lent we also ask you to say the following prayer at meal time for those needy individuals and families throughout the world. Make us worthy, Lord, to serve those people throughout the world who live and die in poverty and hunger. Give them through our hands, this day, their daily bread, and by our understanding love, give them peace and joy. Amen (Prayer for the Poor by St. Mother Teresa) Thank you and may God Bless You! The St. Rose of Lima Conference continued its Homeless Support Program by collecting of hooded sweatshirts for use by Family Services in their homeless/needy programs. Through the month of November, Parish members donated slightly worn and new hooded sweatshirts towards this worthy cause. A total of 65 sweatshirts were delivered to Family Services by the Conference. The members of the St. Rose of Lima SVDP Conference would like say thank you to all the parish members who donated to this noble cause. God Bless You All!
